Originally from Middlesbrough, MARQ Electronica has spent the majority of his life living in Newcastle. It is there that he honed his craft; working as a singer, collaborating with local artists and performing as lead singer in the synth-rock band, Sapien Trace.
He seems like a man who has been there and done it all but it is only recently that he has found the self-confidence to go it alone and release music as a solo act.
He told us: “I’ve organised musical events and performed for over a decade now and finally got the confidence to release my solo material. After years singing and writing lyrics and performing in the region with my band, lockdown gave me the opportunity to work on solo material and some exciting collaborations.
“I’ve never been that confident writing my own music and lyrics but after sharing some of my songs with friends and fellow musicians, they encouraged me to share it with everyone and to strike out as a solo artist.”
‘Crazy Fool’ is his 4th solo single and is described as a ‘deep house love song to move your feet and your heart.’ MARQ said: “My sound is influenced heavily by R’n’B and electronic artists from Missy Elliott to Daft Punk, Fever Ray to Goldfrapp and amazing groups like Massive Attack.”
Produced by Brit and Ivor Novello award winner, Simon Ellis, this is a sure-fire winner. MARQ continued:
“I am working with Simon on a number of tracks and really excited there are some pretty special songs coming your way, folks. The world may be crazy right now, so this is a moment’s release, a fun track we can all identify with to some extent.”
Despite his solo work, he is still very much a member of his band, Sapien Trace, who have an imminent release of their own. He is also involved with trip-hop electronica band, The Last of The Fallen Angels, whose debut single is out now on Parrafin Alien Records.
Marq said: “There is a lot happening right now and that’s just how I like it, I can’t wait to share it all!”
‘Crazy Fool’ is out now on all digital music platforms.
MARQ Electronica will be a guest on our own ‘Time With Chico’ show this Sunday so keep an eye out for that.
